Blogging from Singapore

First of all I would like to wish a very Happy New Year to all my readers. You can see that I haven’t written a post since long time. One of the main reasons is that I haven’t seen actually anything big to blog about to make money online. The second and the biggest reasons for me being offline most of the time was due to my marriage. I got married on 4th of December. This was followed by two more marriages in the family due to which December was full of travelling and family functions.
If you remember I had written about my Honeymoon plans. I have reached Singapore last night (2nd Jan 2009). Ofcourse, like everyone says Singapore is damn cool. We were roaming around till 1 AM on the streets and could see girls having a nice walk and jog all by themselves. This definetly shows that Singapore is a very safe city. Vehicles here follow strict rules even at late nights. First preference is always given to pedestrians over vehicles. There is a fair going on just nearby and you could actually see people leave all their belongings as it is and call for the day. There is hardly any theft or serious crime in Singapore.
As far as my plan goes. I will be in Singapore today after which I will be on the Star Cruise Virgo from 4th to 7th of January. This giant cruise will halt at Penang, Malaysia for the entire day on the 5th. This will be the time when I will get a chance to travel through the most important places in Malaysia. Star Virgo will leave Penang on 5th evening and then halt at Phuket, Thailand on the 6th. I am planning to spend most of the time on the beach in Phuket. Later, I have plans to visit more places in Singapore and then hop to Langkawi island. I will try and post most about my trip here with some photographs. Below are some pics which I managed to click from my room which is on the 18th floor. You can see an Indian temple just opposite my building. On the other side there is a nice Chinese temple with an LRT in the background. You can see it all in the pictures.

Nokia N97 - My next phone?
If you have read my previous posts, you should know that I am a huge Nokia fan. The two main reasons why I love Nokia phones is because of its battery life and user friendliness. I did mention about Nokia N96 and now I am quiet surprised to see Nokia already launching the N97 phone. I think this will be my next phone for sure for following reasons:
1. It has an iPhone kind of feel with touch screen with drag and flip kind of technology.
2. Nokia N97 has a QWERTY keypad with touch user interface. If you followed my iPhone post, you would know that this was the biggest reason why I did not go for an iPhone.
3. Nokia N97 has support for upto 16GB of memory.
4. Nokia N97 has a 5GB MP camera with dual LED flash.
5. Nokia N97 is an S60 series phone (Thank God. No Windows!)
6. Nokia N97 has a 3.5 inches huge touch screen.
7. Nokia N97 has inbuilt GPS Navigator with maps.
8. Nokia N97 supports wifi.
I am not sure if this phone supports push email but there are many softwares and tricks available which can be used to make your phone to push emails. Apart from this, this phone does not look like the bulky N95. All in all a good phone with some qualities of an iPhone, good camera, good sound quality and a QWERTY keyboard to fit your business needs. Here is a cool video of Nokia N97:
Nokia N97 is not available in India as of now but there are rumors that its starting price would be around Rs 40,000 which is around USD 830. As usual the prices will go down as the phone becomes older. The phone is listed on eBay and is available in the United States. below are its eBay listings:

Affiliate Marketing Strategy in current market scenario
As we all know that the world is suffering from economy crisis due to which the Internet is also getting affected. I have seen that people are earning lesser than what they used to earn by selling products online. Coming up is a big shopping time at most places around the world with Chirstmas and other festivals. This is the right time for any Internet Marketer to make most of it. Things would not be same due to market conditions and change of rules with eBay. Previously, eBay used to pay $25 flat on every ACRU (Active Confirmed Register User). This is now changed where eBay can also pay you $1 for every ACRU. More on this can be read here.
To overcome all this, I have adopted a small startegy which I can say is working for me. The idea here is to make most from your buyer. This can be difficult at times but if you read my previous posts on how to target audience and countries, you can easily achieve your target.
So apart from selecting the proper niche and audience you will also have to look at the cost of the product you are selling. I have a website which ranks no.1 on Yahoo for the term "Buy Product Name" but makes only 20-30 USD per day from Amazon. The reason is Amazon pays me only 4% of the total product cost and there is no bonus for new user sign up like eBay. This means to make $4, I will have to sell a product of $100 which could be rarely found in the product I am promoting. This means to make atleast $40 per day, I will have to sell products worth $1000. The average cost of my product would be $10 which means I need atleast 100 unique visitors who will actually come to my website and make a purchase. This seems to be more effort for very less money.
So the idea here is to sell products of high cost. Targetting a product which costs around $200-$250 would be a good deal. So lets assume we are promoting a product for which the average cost is $200. If we promote such a product then the minimum income on per sale would be $8. This can be more if you are promoting the product with eBay using their publisher program. The income can be more if the buyer is a new user where you can earn the commission + the ACRU if its a new user. Just 10 conversions per day and you would be earning $80 everyday with ease. The amount of satisfaction always comes with the income figure. Driving thousands of people to your website who convert very well but earn you a few dollars is quiet depressing. So if you want to have a smile on your face and make most in this period, start promoting products which are a bit expensive and have good market.

Research on eBay and affiliate marketing
I had written a post about researching before getting in to anything that makes you money online. Most of my posts are now about affiliate marketing and eBay as I am making most of my money using these ways. Targeting your audience is very important. There are many people who have very good traffic to their product sites but the kind of sale they make is very bad. I have met people who get more that 1000 unique visitors per day but end up making no sales for the entire month. The kind of traffic is also important. When you start a product selling website, you need to ensure whether people coming to your website will actually buy the product or no. I remember a post by Zac Johnson where he had written about "will you think of buying things from your own website". Then there was a post from Shoemoney which talks about asking your friends and family members about a website. Don’t tell them its yours and get an honest opinion from them on whether they would actually buy something of that website.
In this post I am talking about a little research I have done on eBay which actually helped me in stopping what I was really planning to start from next week. While doing this research, I also concluded that there are people on the Internet which can be targeted easily as there are very few players working on that area. Here is the research part:
Since I am in India, I was planning to sell few products on eBay.in. To check the prices on eBay sold items, I went to www.ebay.in, clicked on advance search, checked the box that says show only completed listings and hit enter. Doing this brings down a list of recently ended auctions for my product. Doing so will list down the products with two colors i.e. green and red. Green means the auction has ended successfully where someone has actually bougt the product. Red means the acution has ended without the product being sold. I was pretty shocked to see that 100% of the recently ended auctions for my product were red. This means no one has bought that product from eBay India recently.
Well, maybe my product is bad and noone actually buys it from eBay. Now I went to http://pulse.ebay.com where it lists the most sold products on eBay. The first listed there was iPod. Now lets see how many iPods are sold recently on eBay India. Out of the first 25 listings on first page, I can see that 5 are in green which means. Atleast 5 iPods or iPod products are sold which is a good sign compared to my product I searched.
Now lets check how other countries are doing with eBays most selling product. So I did the same research on eBay US, eBay UK, eBay AU and eBay SG. Results are shown below (taken only from the first page):
eBay US - 20 Sold
eBay UK - 13 Sold
eBAY SG - 14 Sold
eBAY AU - 16 Sold.
Now lets check the competition for the tem ‘ipod’ in various countries. First we start with US by going to http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&q=ipod&adtest=on&gl=US. What we see is 100s of advertisers already spening money for this term. Remember the number of items sold in eBay US and compare. Not a great choice to enter this market.
UK - http://www.google.co.uk/search?adtest=on&hl=en&gl=Uk&q=ipod&btnG=Search&meta=. I see only six paid advertisers here which means an iPOD website targetting UK audience can be a good choice.
SG - http://www.google.com.sg/search?adtest=on&hl=en&gl=sg&q=ipod&btnG=Search&meta=. Just two paid ads out of which one is Apple and the other one is Citibank. Now buying a .sg domain and some basic SEO could do wonders for me in this niche targetting people on Singapore only. From our eBay research, we did conclude that people from Singapore do onlne shopping as much as people in UK.
AU - http://www.google.com.au/search?adtest=on&hl=en&gl=au&q=ipod&btnG=Search&meta=. Just ONE paid ad which is from Apple. People in Australia do buy a lot as per our conclusion above and there is not much competetion. Entering this niche and targeting Australians would be a GREAT idea.
IN - http://www.google.co.in/search?adtest=on&hl=en&gl=in&q=ipod&btnG=Search&meta=. Just ONE ad that too of eBay. This means the competetion is less and so are the buyers (only 5) so entering this area can be good but not much profitable.
Using my above method you can research on your products and accordingly target your audience. You can try the same with other countries like HK, BR etc.

Save money and be cool - Use Ubuntu
As we all know, the market is suffering like crazy. This is the time only for people who know their job and can survive any kind of market position. I meet lot of people day in and day out, some are very scared of losing business or losing jobs whereas others are just living their lives as they always did. Talking about the first halves makes no sense as the entire world is giving them tips (BS). I am here to discuss things about the other half. The other half are people who know how to save money and work as they did 2 years ago. The idea is quiet simple…Just cut down on cost. If you are not a business man then give such ideas to your boss and he will in turn ensure that your job with him is secured
The main idea here is to think different…think something out of the box. we are talking of saving money and we can do it if we have some positive attitude and accept some major changes. Coming to the point of discussion…I am in India and India has known for its pirated softwares forever. Things have changed now. India now has Anti Piracy Software divisions who are hunting down companies and individuals who are running pirated copies of software. No marks for guessing, the first inline is Microsoft Windows. Lot of them are already getting messages of the non genuine copy and are still ignoring it assuming that nothings gonna happen. If you got that message and are still ignoring then think twice. All I can say is that ‘You are Watched’.
People are getting traced and are forced to buy windows licenses. There is no penalty but a genuine and honest but forecful option for you to buy a windows xp license which costs around RS 6000.
Ready to pay 6K? Then don’t read this post. If you wanna save 6K for something productive then go ahead an order or download a copy of UBUNTU.
I myself have been a linux freak since some years and would have never ever recommended Linux for any of my desktop users. Things have changed now and I would say that people should move to UBUNTU. Its a very user friendly operating system which is FREE OF COST. You can order your CDs from their website absolutely free and use it.
I know and agree to the fact that it is not as easy as Windows but think again…Its free for you… I would be glad to help you with your issues with UBUNTU. Just leave a cooment below.

Advanced Random Post plugin for Wordpress

Last night I was discussing few things with a friend over Skype about websites, Internet Marketing and Making Money Online. The talks mostly were about affiliate marketing, eBay, Amazon etc. Like I always say the most important thing to make money online is to get good amount of traffic. No matter how you are making money online, traffic is the most important factor to increase your sales and income. I am sure that many of my readers, just like me, would have old websites/blogs which are just lying there without any updates or changes since months and hence no traffic. We all know that search engines like fresh content and the search engine bots visits to your website/blog slows down once it sees the same old content all the time. In other words, every search engine crawls your site more frequently if you constantly update it. Once the search engine sees that the site is not changed, it will delay its next visit to your website. I have heard that most of the news websites are crawled within seconds by search engines.
If you are lazy like me and think you do not actually have time to update your website/blog everyday then here is a simple little trick that might work for you. This will also work for people who might have made a real gem of a post months ago but its hidden somewhere in the archive and its not gaining any attention now. This plugin is called the ‘Advanced Random Post Plugin‘. What this plugin does is pulls a post from your archives and displays it on your homepage. This means every time you refresh our page, you will get a new post on your homepage. This also means that your user gets to see something different (maybe not new), everytime he/she visits your blog.
You can customize the plugin from the admin panel itself. Here are some few things you can do with Advanced Random Post Plugin:
1. Define the postition of the random post. For e.g. You can put it right on top (1st post), second, third etc.
2. You can define the number of random posts that can be shown on homepage.
3. You can define a title for the random post. Something like ‘Random Post:’, ‘Post from our Archives:’ etc. I would recommend to keep this to the original post it self.
Please share your websites in the comments section which use this plugin. Don’t forget that I am using No No follow rules for commentators.

What are illegal Yahoo ids
Lot of us want to be different in this world to gain attention. Gaining attention by doing something different can be achieved very easily when you are really different. People on chat try and be different by using innovative chat ids. Lot of people make funny ids and gain attention from fellow chatters.
The biggest and the most used chat network according to me is the Yahoo! Chat Network. Millions of people can be found in chat rooms with thousands of chat bots
. Many times you might have come across weird chat ids. These ids have hyphens, spaces or some sort of characters on them. You try to make such an id but it is impossible to make one. I am talking about the original id and not the Nickname. Nickname can be created or changed as and when you feel. Nickname can contain spaces, hyphens or any other special characters.
Yahoo chat ids with hyphens, spaces or other special characters and called as "illegal ids". Few examples of such ids: _Harry_, _____Harry_____, Nice Harry, Bad Harry, —Harry—, harry@prodigy.net, h@rry, h-a-r-r-y and much more. These ids in real are not the so called "illegal" ids. These ids are legal and can be used if you have them. The only problem is that you cannot make such ids anymore. Such ids were made by people who started using Yahoo back when it started in 1996 (I think). Yahoo stopped people creating such ids in 1999.
Nowadays people are crazy behind such ids and pay good money to buy them. Lot of password crackers are created to crack such old ids. Apart from such ids, people are also crazy for original ids. Original ids are just one word like Harry, Harshad, Blogger etc. People like owning ids which include their own name. I am proud owner of one email id at Yahoo Harshad[at]yahoo.com. This wasn’t cracked or bought. This id was made by me back in 1996. I made quiet a few ids for friends then and still have access to them …not sure if I have them all yet. If you need yourname@yahoo.com, then please ask me in comments. I will give it to you for free in case it was made by me. Chances are very less but you may try your luck.

Is Google AdSense really unbanning people?
We all know that it is impossible to get your Google AdSense account back once you are banned. There are people who
have got their account back after immediately asking Google to have one more look. I have never ever heard of someone getting his or her Google AdSense account back which was lost years ago. Just now I came across this post on Digital Point forums where the user claims that he got his account back from Google AdSense.
What this will do is flood Google AdSense mail boxes asking for reinstatement of their account. I know there would be lot of n00bs who have already sent emails to Google AdSense support.
I am not sure if this guy is actually saying the truth but looking at his other posts and reputation at Digital Point forums, he seems to be genuine with the right information. If you are thinking of getting your old AdSense account unbanned, then think twice. You need to be polite and have lot of patience for getting a positive reply. Most important points mentioned in the post say:
"I concentrated on my websites and built up great traffic to them (Averaging at 10,000 pageloads per day combined)" and then
"My email also had a promise which told Adsense that I’d be one of the publishers they’d be proud to have in their network if they unbanned me, I also gave them my traffic stats and the URL’s of all the domains I had used Adsense with, from my first account as well as from my second account. I confessed to everything I did. I also wrote that I understood they must have got in a lot of troubles because of me with the advertisers for invalid clicks but I was deeply sorry for that."
All in all, I feel the AdSense team did see some potential in his websites. Maybe its the traffic or the Niche. Advertising networks at times are short of a particular niche and if they find it in your website then luck turns your way. Traffic is the main key when it comes to making money online with websites. Building traffic is the main criteria for a website making money for long time.

Attend Trade Shows and display your product
Selling a product or service requires lot of marketing. With the current market scenario, selling a product has become more difficult. Every company and individual is going towards cost cutting. Getting someone to buy your product at this stage can be very difficult. Internet marketing is a good option but limited. Offline marketing always is more affective and always will be. Internet marketing can always be considered as a secondary method of getting customers.
We won’t be discussing more of Internet marketing in this post. Offline marketing can be done in various ways but the most affective way is to target the right audience. Marketing a beer in switzerland winter will not be a good option. It is always difficult to spend money on marketing as we are not sure if there would be positive results out of it. People who are making it big in the industry have spent huge amount of money in advertising.
The best way to get your target audience is to attend Trae Shows. There are Trade Shows which are dedicated to a similar product line whereas there are many others which are generic. Number of people visiting Trade Shows is increasing quiet reasonably. While avertising in a Trade Show, you need to ensure that you get the best spot which is highky visible and second comes your Trade Show Booths. There are many companies which provide you booths which come at quiet reasonable price. You just need to ensure which booth suits your booth location and product. Here are some points that you should keep in mind while planning to advertise at a Trade Show.
1. Select a good, atractive booth from a range of Trade Show Displays and Trade Show Exhibits.
2. Keeping attractive girls always helps. Some people might have a good reason to visit your booth and try to know more about your product.
3. Encourage people to take pictures at your booth. Provide a free picture of theirs taken at your booth. Your product gets advertised till the picture lasts.
4. Engage your best marketing person who has good knowledge about the product.
5. A Trade Show Booth attended by some senior person from the company will do wonders for your sales.
6. Atleast gather visitng cards or contact information from all people who are inquiring at your booth. Follow up with them after the show in case they did not convert.
7. Use a Bluetooth system and send messages about your booth/product to cellphones with bluetooth on. You are bound to get tech savvy people gain your attention.
8. Always smile and welcome people passing by your booth.
